Details, details read all about it!

Hello! I am so glad you decided to visit us here and that your interest has been peaked regarding the NC Girls Retreat!

This mission started 3 years ago when a young adult felt the call to bring Christian young ladies together for quality, Christ centered interaction. Since then, there have been 2 Girls Retreats hosted in NC with much success! We are excited to see what God has in store for us this year!

Here is the basic information run down:

Location: Camp Grier,  985 Camp Grier Rd, Old Fort, NC 28762
Start date/time: Friday, August 16th 5PM
End date/time: Sunday, August 18th after lunch
Cost: $50 per person due at the time of arrival (August 16th, 5PM) *See Kelby on arrival
Sign up: Fill out forms HERE

Questions Answered:

Why only 13-18?
I feel the burden to target this age range of young ladies simply because of the difficult dynamics at these ages. So for now, we are keeping it simple with only a few older girls helping out.

What kind of recreational activities will be involved?
There is canoeing, swimming, hiking, and volleyball available at the campgrounds to name a few! Bring modest get-wet clothes! (see packing list below).

What if I have food allergies?
Please specify allergies on the sign up sheet and we will do our best to accommodate you. We may need to contact you for ideas for meals depending on the scope of your allergies.
BRING YOUR EPI PEN!!

Is this tent camping?
Nope! This is Rustic Cabin Camping. We will have two bunk houses (no air, sorry ladies) as shelter and a place to store all of our stuff. This isn't ideal but better than tents! Shower houses will be a short distance away.

What spiritual aspects will be incorporated?
Although this is a Christ-centered retreat, we want our girls to have good, quality fun together. There will not be multiple structured lessons throughout the weekend. There may a testimonial service around a campfire one night and there will definitely be mandatory prayer requests and prayer together nightly. I want everyone to learn that we can have good, clean fun together and the time be meaningful. We (youth leaders, retreat leaders, young adults) will be looking for every opportunity that presents itself to bring Jesus into it! Whether that's deescalating an argument, teaching teamwork, or praying together in the evenings.

If there any other questions or concerns, please email me at: kelby.vanbuskirk@gmail.com

Alright! So here are a couple other lists for you:

Packing List:
  1. Sleeping Bag and pillow
  2. Comfy (modest) PJs (no booty shorts or spaghetti strap tank tops! Basketball shorts might be a good idea as it will be hot)
  3. Shower stuff (towel, shampoo, body wash, washcloth or spongey, shower shoes)
  4. Hair brush/Comb
  5. Clothes! (Bring leggings to go under skirts or gauchos for activities)
  6. Water Clothes (no straight up bathing suits please. Some ideas: Swim trunks and {dark colored} t-shirt over bathing suit, swim skirts, or rash guards)
  7. Leggings (yes this was listed earlier but PLEASE don't forget to bring some period!!)
  8. Feminine Hygiene products (just because we've all forgotten these its NO FUN 😁)
  9. $50 (cash or check!)
  10. Sunscreen (even if you wont wear it!)
  11. Aloe (for those who ignored #10 😒 You know who you are!)
  12. Tennis shoes (for hiking)
  13. Water bottle (we will have large water dispensers to use throughout activities during the day)
Rules:
  1. Stay with a buddy (doesn't have to be the same person all weekend)
    • To the shower house to use the bathroom or shower
    • To explore the campgrounds
    • 3 or more to hike
    •  at least 2 to canoe/swim
    • Ecc 4:9-10  Two are better than one; … For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
  2. Let a leader or young adult know where your going
    • Pro 4:26  Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
    • With "established" meaning, "Tell someone about your plan in case it goes wrong and we need to come find you" 😂
  3. NO gossiping or teasing (if the teasing targets one person directly)
    • Leaders and young adults will be on the lookout to nip this in the bud. There is no place for this in a Christ-centered setting. We need to be encouraging and building each other up!
    • Pro 26:17  He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
    • 1Th 5:11  Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another...
  4. Keep each other accountable
    • Don't always run to a leader if you see someone breaking a rule
    • 1Pe 5:5  Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
    • It is humbling to need to tell someone that you don't agree with how they are acting or to remove yourself from a toxic situation. But God will give you grace if you are humble about it.
    • Do not use this rule as an occasion for the flesh. We don't need the girls to scout and patrol one another. We don't need tattlers. We want to build on the foundations of them understanding things for themselves and becoming independent in their convictions.
    • Heb 3:13  But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
  5. Follow the schedule
    • There wont be an enforced "curfew", but everyone will need to be present for group activities and prayer in the evenings. After prayer there is no going outside of the bunk houses, though you may talk quietly and stay up as long as you like, being that your a respectful of those trying to sleep.
    • Heb 10:25  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Thats all guys. That's the extent of the rules. Be respectful (to each other and leaders) and DONT RUIN YOUR WITNESS. There wont be many people outside of our group around, but consider that every person you come into contact with might visit your church Sunday morning... did you act in a way that honors God and the life you choose to lead as Christian?

With all that being said, I am SO EXCITED about this years retreat. Please don't forget to email with any questions/concerns.

As always, stay true!

Girls Retreat Summer of 2019

Hey Ladies!

Thanks sooo much for visiting, I am so very excited that you are interested in the girls retreat this year! I know its going to be a great time for everyone and I hope we can all come out of it closer to each other, and maybe having learned a few good lessons along the way.

There is an awesome camp not far from where I live who rents out these huge bunk cabins and has various activities on the campgrounds, as well as a "Mess Hall" where they will bring staff in to cook our food (for a price of course, nothings free in this world, ugh!). I think this will be the perfect place to host this years retreat.

I know it doesn't HAVE to have theme, but the flier was super cute, am I right? I will be brainstorming some ways to incorporate the theme throughout the weekend. Hit me up with your ideas!

May just works best for me as far as work and finances go. If May does NOT work for you to the point that it will keep you from coming, PLEASE tell me so we can work something out! Also, if any of you have a weekend that works better than another, please let me know that as well. I am thinking the end of may/beginning of June.

please, Please, PLEASE text me or comment here if you are even remotely interested in joining us this year, and help me start praying that God will bless our efforts!

Last thing- if you are 18+, serving Jesus, and want to help plan and/or come for moral support, please get with me through email or text, we would love to have you!

Don't go too far ladies, more details to come!

SPREAD THE WORD! :)

Details for Fall 2017 Retreat

Hello lovely Ladies! I am so excited to present the final details of the Fall 2017 Girl's Retreat!

So, I had talked to some of you about collaborating with the boys retreat this year. I know that this idea takes away from the "Girls" part of a girl retreat, but we need their help and heres why:
This year we are leading a special service project. We will be painting and redecorating 3 rooms in a women and childrens homeless shelter. This project will take almost all day Saturday to complete and we will need help moving and rearanging furniture. Friday evening, we are going to go look at the rooms, draw teams at random, and start making plans for doing the rooms. There will be a joint bon fire service with boys that evening and we will have a guest speaker. The boys will be helping us Saturday, but Saturday evening will be just us girls. Plus, I have no plans to regulate how late we want to stay up either Friday or Saturday night. Our devotionals are limited to the guest speaker, but us girls will be doing games both of those evenings.

I know this plan omits alot of down time for us as a group, but I think it will be a wonderful opportunity.

I would also like to apologize that we were not able to fo the retreat over the summer. Lord willing, we will be doing a summer retreat next year.

You will need to pack the following items:

Sleeping Bag
Work Clothes (Bring an undershirt you can work in-we wil be wearing team shirts)
Shower Stuff
Toothbrush/Toothpaste
PJS (footie pajamas are fun... Just sayin)
Church clothes (Sunday Morning)
Comfy clothes to hang out in Friday/Saturday night
Bring any items you think you might want to use to decorate your team's room i.e. Twin comforters, pictures for the walls, etc.

If you have any questions, feel free to call or email me @ (828) 442-2203 or kelby.vanbuskirk@gmail.com

Please sign up HERE by October 16th!

2nd Annual Girls Retreat!

Wow guys, its already 2017! Unbelievable, huh? I hope and pray that you all had a blessed holiday and are ready to dedicate 2017 to Christ and live for his glory in this new year.

That being said, who's reading for the 2017 girls retreat?! ME!!

For those of you who have never visited here before, this page was started to give general information for a Christ-based weekend summer retreat for girls 12 and up. Check out previous posts if you'd like to see kind of how last years was set up. Also, if you'd like to get our annual newsletter, email me your address and name.

I want to start by getting some basic feedback on last year. I know that these type of questions can be redundant and often difficult to answer, but you can make it short and sweet if you must. We just really need this so we can improve in the coming year.
If you can, email me at kelby.godsgirl@gmail.com to answer the following questions. If you don't have an email, no problem, just leave a comment on this post with your answers.

  1. Were the lessons easy to understand, interesting, and taught by people you have confidence in?
  2. If they weren't, what would be a better way to learn? Do you have any suggestions on how to make the lessons easier to understand?
  3. Was the food great, good, or bearable? ;)
  4. Were you bored at all? If so, at what point?
  5. Did you feel comfortable talking to the young adult mentors or going to them if you needed something?
  6. Did you like being/having a YAM (Young Adult Mentor)?
  7. Did you learn something?
  8. Were the activities/crafts fun and interesting to you?
  9. List one thing that could've been better.
See? That wasn't terribly hard, right?
I cant wait to see what's going to happen this year ladies! I will do my best to update the website after I have a good response on the polls. Much love to you all,
STAY TRUE,
Kelby
P.S. DONT FORGET THE POLLS! >>>>>>>
