Hello! I am so glad you decided to visit us here and that your interest has been peaked regarding the NC Girls Retreat!
This mission started 3 years ago when a young adult felt the call to bring Christian young ladies together for quality, Christ centered interaction. Since then, there have been 2 Girls Retreats hosted in NC with much success! We are excited to see what God has in store for us this year!
Here is the basic information run down:
Location: Camp Grier,
Start date/time: Friday, August 16th 5PM
End date/time: Sunday, August 18th after lunch
Cost: $50 per person due at the time of arrival (August 16th, 5PM) *See Kelby on arrival

Questions Answered:
Why only 13-18?
I feel the burden to target this age range of young ladies simply because of the difficult dynamics at these ages. So for now, we are keeping it simple with only a few older girls helping out.
What kind of recreational activities will be involved?
There is canoeing, swimming, hiking, and volleyball available at the campgrounds to name a few! Bring modest get-wet clothes! (see packing list below).
What if I have food allergies?
Please specify allergies on the sign up sheet and we will do our best to accommodate you. We may need to contact you for ideas for meals depending on the scope of your allergies.
BRING YOUR EPI PEN!!
Is this tent camping?
Nope! This is Rustic Cabin Camping. We will have two bunk houses (no air, sorry ladies) as shelter and a place to store all of our stuff. This isn't ideal but better than tents! Shower houses will be a short distance away.
What spiritual aspects will be incorporated?
Although this is a Christ-centered retreat, we want our girls to have good, quality fun together. There will not be multiple structured lessons throughout the weekend. There may a testimonial service around a campfire one night and there will definitely be mandatory prayer requests and prayer together nightly. I want everyone to learn that we can have good, clean fun together and the time be meaningful. We (youth leaders, retreat leaders, young adults) will be looking for every opportunity that presents itself to bring Jesus into it! Whether that's deescalating an argument, teaching teamwork, or praying together in the evenings.

Alright! So here are a couple other lists for you:
Packing List:
- Sleeping Bag and pillow
- Comfy (modest) PJs (no booty shorts or spaghetti strap tank tops! Basketball shorts might be a good idea as it will be hot)
- Shower stuff (towel, shampoo, body wash, washcloth or spongey, shower shoes)
- Hair brush/Comb
- Clothes! (Bring leggings to go under skirts or gauchos for activities)
- Water Clothes (no straight up bathing suits please. Some ideas: Swim trunks and {dark colored} t-shirt over bathing suit, swim skirts, or rash guards)
- Leggings (yes this was listed earlier but PLEASE don't forget to bring some period!!)
- Feminine Hygiene products (just because we've all forgotten these its NO FUN 😁)
- $50 (cash or check!)
- Sunscreen (even if you wont wear it!)
- Aloe (for those who ignored #10 😒 You know who you are!)
- Tennis shoes (for hiking)
- Water bottle (we will have large water dispensers to use throughout activities during the day)
Rules:
- Stay with a buddy (doesn't have to be the same person all weekend)
- To the shower house to use the bathroom or shower
- To explore the campgrounds
- 3 or more to hike
- at least 2 to canoe/swim
- Ecc 4:9-10 Two are better than one; … For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
- Let a leader or young adult know where your going
- Pro 4:26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
- With "established" meaning, "Tell someone about your plan in case it goes wrong and we need to come find you" 😂
- NO gossiping or teasing (if the teasing targets one person directly)
- Leaders and young adults will be on the lookout to nip this in the bud. There is no place for this in a Christ-centered setting. We need to be encouraging and building each other up!
- Pro 26:17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
- 1Th 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another...
- Keep each other accountable
- Don't always run to a leader if you see someone breaking a rule
- 1Pe 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
- It is humbling to need to tell someone that you don't agree with how they are acting or to remove yourself from a toxic situation. But God will give you grace if you are humble about it.
- Do not use this rule as an occasion for the flesh. We don't need the girls to scout and patrol one another. We don't need tattlers. We want to build on the foundations of them understanding things for themselves and becoming independent in their convictions.
- Heb 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
- Follow the schedule
- There wont be an enforced "curfew", but everyone will need to be present for group activities and prayer in the evenings. After prayer there is no going outside of the bunk houses, though you may talk quietly and stay up as long as you like, being that your a respectful of those trying to sleep.
- Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Thats all guys. That's the extent of the rules. Be respectful (to each other and leaders) and DONT RUIN YOUR WITNESS. There wont be many people outside of our group around, but consider that every person you come into contact with might visit your church Sunday morning... did you act in a way that honors God and the life you choose to lead as Christian?
With all that being said, I am SO EXCITED about this years retreat. Please don't forget to email with any questions/concerns.
As always, stay true!
Kelby VanBuskirk
